Lajos Kossuth è figura emblematica dell’aspirazione all’indipendenza che nell’Ottocento agitava l’Europa contro i grandi imperi sovranazionali: spese la sua vita per l’Ungheria, di cui fu capo nel primo governo libero (1849) e per cui lottò anche in esilio. A Torino, dove visse 35 anni, il suo busto fa compagnia ad altri patrioti indipendentisti nel giardino a loro dedicato.

Lajos Kossuth is an emblematic figure of the desire for independence that swept across Europe’s 19th Century to contrast the great super-national Empires of those times.
He spent his whole life for Hungary, whose first free Government he was the prime Minister of in 1849, which he also fought for when exiled. At Turin, where he lived for 35 years, his bust is in the company of other patriotic supporters of national independence in the garden dedicated to them.
