La figura del santo e patrono dei carcerati presidia il luogo dove un tempo si eseguivano le condanne a morte, il “rondò della forca”: lì don Cafasso, sacerdote e insegnante di morale al seminario, scelse di stare dalla parte degli ultimi.
Lo scultore non ha immortalato l’abbraccio paternalistico di un sacerdote al condannato, ma due uomini fragili e scarni, fratelli in Cristo.

The figure of the Patron Saint of Prison Inmates hovers over the area where death sentences were once carried out, the so-called “rondò della forca”. This is where Don Cafasso, a priest and teacher of Ethics at the Seminar decided to be on the side of the last on the list. The sculptor did not render immortal priest a paternalistically embracing a person condemned to death but two fragile and wan men, both brothers in Christ.
