The Museo Diffuso della Resistenza, della Deportazione, della Guerra, dei Diritti e della Libertà ["Widespread" Museum of Resistance, Deportation, the War, Rights and Freedom] opened on the 30 May 2003 in the 18thC building of the Quartieri Militari.

Here, research and communication are brought together, confrontation meets reflection, in a Museum of ideas: starting from events which happened in Turin and the surrounding area between 1938 and 1948, then expanding its field of interest to Europe throughout the whole of the 20thC, it concentrates particularly on the great issues of rights and freedom.

This is not a conventional museum, and gives priority to experimenting with original, innovative forms of communication and language, to stimulate active dialogue with present-day society.

The Museum's representation of the period of the Second World War concentrates on two focal points: the land, as the physical depository of traces from the past, and memory, the tool through which the historical happenings of one's own community can be reread. The spaces contain a permanent display ("Turin 1938-1948. From the racial laws to the Constitution"), and host temporary exhibitions, film viewings, meetings, seminars and performances.

In the same building there are two institutes specialised in the history of the 20thC: the National Cinematographic Archive of the Resistance (ANCR) and the "Giorgio Agosti" Piedmont Institute for the History of the Resistance and Contemporary Society (ISTORETO), which have in their care a patrimony of documents unique in Europe.

Museo della Resistenza is part of “Percorsi d’arte e di cultura”:
