Updated 4-23-2013

On May 19th the Mayor of Torino Sergio Chiamparino led a delegation of the City to Chambéry in order to participate in the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of the twinning between the two cities. Besides the Mayor there were present also the Chairman of City Council Giuseppe Castronovo, the councillor Carlo Zanolini and the Chairman of Torino Chamber of Commerce Alessandro Barberis.

The Mayor of Chambéry Louis Besson and the Mayor Chiamparino chaired the official ceremony and the opening of the celebrations. During the ceremony the cooperation and friendship relations between the two cities were mentioned, with special attention to the recent projects within the field of museums. Both Mayors reminded also the importance of developing the railway connections between Italy and France.

A rich program of initiatives followed: a street market of typical Piedmont’s products was arranged at the City Hall and the Scuola di Cirko realized some street performances. At 18.00 started the Museums Night, in Torino’s own way, with the opening of the exposition Les fruits sont à tous, taking place at Les Charmettes- Maison Jean Jacques Rousseau, featuring the City of Torino, the Agriculture Accademy and the Fruit Museum of Torino. At 21.00 the Architanghi of the Teatro Regio of Torino performed at the cloister of the Musée Savoisien.

The political delegation of the City of Torino on its way back, together with the Mayor of Chambéry Louis Besson, visited the yards of the High Speed Railways near Modane.

Parallel celebrations will be held in Torino on September 15th.
