PRESENTATION

The City of Turin has implemented a number of programmes and activities that show great awareness about issues such as peace and disarmament, intercultural understanding and cooperation with developing countries.

The presence of important international institutions, the dynamic network of associations and the variety of projects organised in recent years in the city have created an intense network with developing countries and have encouraged exchange, cultural awareness and innovative practices.

Turin has implemented numerous operative tools in support of international activities and, for the solidarity projects in particular, it has created the INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND PEACE DEPARTMENT.

AIMS OF THE DEPARTMENT

  • To strengthen the political efforts of international cooperation
  • To defend and promote the global and local heritage
  • To create peace based on social justice and respect for freedom and human rights
  • To promote social relations in a secure environment
  • To promote sustainable development

ACTIVITIES

  • Increase awareness about international cooperation, solidarity between peoples and peace

  • Support to emergency, reconstruction and assistance activities

  • Protection of the environment: rubbish collection, safeguarding of the water supply
  • Health: prevention of infectious diseases, medical infrastructure, development of traditional medicine, protection of maternity, health and social education to promote equal opportunities

  • Economic development: fair trade and solidarity, women's small enterprises
