October 30th-November 4th 2013 TORINO IDEAS - New York Torino Days Autumn 2013

On the occasion of the rich calendar of events called TORINO IDEAS - New York Torino Days Autumn 2013, organised thanks to the cooperation of some of the most important local institutions like the National Cinema Museum, Biblioteca Reale, Teatro Stabile foundation, GAM, CRT Foundation for Arts, De Fornaris Foundation, Università degli Studi and Politecnico of Torino, within the framework of the year of Italian culture in the U.S.A., the Mayor of the City of Torino Piero Fassino led a territorial mission to New York.

The programme officially started on October 25th with the presentation at the Morgan Library of New York of Leonardo Da Vinci’s drawings, kept in the Biblioteca Reale of Torino and exposed in New York until February 2nd 2014. The Regional Director of Cultural and Landscape Goods of Piedmont Mario Buretta took part in the inauguration.

Mayor Fassino instead, arrived in New York on October 30th for the symposium Gran Torino - The City of Contemporary Art,a meeting aiming at presenting the GAM, the CRT Foundation for Arts, the De Fornaris Foundation as case studies of the larger contemporary arts system of the City of Torino, at national and international level. The Mayor, the Director of the MoMA PS1 Klaus Biesenbach, the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of New York Riccardo Viale, the Director of the New York branch of the Gagosian Gallery Valentina Castellani, the Secretary General of the CRT Foundation for Arts Massimo Lapucci and the President of the Art Commission of the De Fornaris Foundation as well as Director of the GAM Danilo Eccher, attended the meeting.

On October 31st the Mayor attended several meetings: in the morning he met the representatives of the Italian national economic system in New York at the Consulate General of Italy, he then attended the inauguration of Matteo Pericoli’s exhibition at Eataly and finally he met the possible sponsors of the 2014 tournée of the Regio in the U.S.A; in the afternoon he took part in a seminar of the Italian Cultural Institute of New York on the link between research and enterprise, he then brought his greetings at the Scuola d’Italia “Guglielmo Marconi” where the Teatro Stabile staged Giacomo Leopardi’s  “Operette morali” and at the National Cinema Museum on the occasion of the 11th MoMA International Festival of Film Preservation. In the evening toast in Times Square where, from October 28th to November 3rd, four times per hour, one of the famous billboards showed in HD the video 30 Sec of Torino - City of Art, dedicated to the City and its artistic richness.

On November 1, besides some meeting with the museum system of New York, in particular the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim, the Mayor met the Secretary General of the U.N. Ban Ki-moon and Antonio Bernardini Deputy Permanent Representative of Italy at the U.N. His stay in the U.S then ended
