December 2010 Mission to Chicago - U.S.A.

Chicago

From December 5th to 9th, the Mayor of the City of Torino Sergio Chiamparino led a mission of the territory, which included among the others the Rector of the Politecnico Francesco Profumo and the President of the Industrial Union Gianfranco Carbonato, to Chicago in the U.S.A. The first day, December 6th, has been dedicated to local visits and meetings.

Instead, on December 7th and 8th the delegation took part in the prestigious Global Metro Summit "From Metro to macro: how metro transformation can deliver the next economy" organized in Chicago by the London School of Economics and the Brookings Institute. Torino, together with Munich, Barcelona and Seoul, has been chosen as a case study for its model of urban transformation and diversification which has been able to overcome the industrial crisis and to face the new dynamics of the global economy.

The summit, in which took part some six hundred participants, scheduled a lecture of the Mayor during the session "Reinventing the post-industrial economy" as well as his participation in the panel discussion "MetropolitanoMetropolitan Economic Development: global insights on effective approaches". The President of the Industrial Union Gianfranco Carbonato also gave his contribution with the lecture Leveraging the Automotive Sector to promote Industrial Diversification as well as the Rector of the Politecnico Francesco Profumo with the lecture Stimulating knowledge-led Business Growth in the Post-industrial City: the case of the Polytechnic University of Torino.
