May 2007 Mission to New York

Updated 4-19-2013

From May 14th to 25th the restaurant of the U.N. Headquarters in New York was customized by the Torino + Piemonte Food Festival with the gastronomic proposals of the Piedmont's Stars, the best chefs of the Region. Within the festival there were organized lunches and thematic presentations for media and insiders concerning Olympic venues, cultural resources, tourism, design and architecture.

The exceptionality of the event - for the first time a UN Food Festival is not dedicated to a country but to a city and a region - contributed to the succes of the initiative which, besides promoting the district excellences, intended to enhance the U.N. structures in Torino - represented in the Piedmont’s chief town by the Staff College, the Training Centre of the I.L.O. and the United Nations International Crime and Justice Research Institute -.

The Mayor of Torino Sergio Chiamparino took part in the activities on May 15th and 16th and meanwhile he carried out some meetings in order to strengthen the relations with the U.N. In particular, the Mayor was welcomed by Asha Rose Migiro, the vice Secretary General of the U.N., by the Head of the Office of the Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and by the member of the Senior Management Group Alicia Barena, responsible for Management at the U.N. During his stay in New York the Mayor also met the Consul General of Italy in New York Antonio Bandini.
