June 2004 Mission to Czech Republic

From June 3rd to 5th 2004, the Mayor Chiamparino visited the Czech Republic for an institutional mission with the aim of opening new contacts and relations with the cities that became members of the European Union on May 1st 2004. On June 3rd the Mayor was received in the City of Zlin by the Mayor Tomaš Uhlela and the Deputy Mayor Irena Ondrova, who is responsible for international relations.

With the City of Zlin they discussed various opportunities for cooperation, in particular exchanges in the field of audiovisual and animated cinema production, in which Torino excels and the Czech City can boast an age-old tradition. The Mayor’s visit followed a previous delegation by the City Council of Torino (Councillors Roberto Coppola and Alessandro Altamura), who visited Zlin on May 1st to take part in the celebrations for the extension of the European Union, "Together to Europe".

On June 4th, the Mayor, accompanied by the President of the Gruppo Torinese Trasporti Giancarlo Guiati and the Managing Director Davide Gariglio, visited the Siemens factory in Prague, where the carriages of Line 1 of the Torino underground railway are being built. The delegation from Torino was received by the Mayor of Prague, Pavel Bernandda and representatives of the local authorities, for an institutional meeting in which they discussed the expansion of the European Union and future cooperation between old and new European cities.
