April 10th-14th Biennale Democrazia - Africa of the future, between democracy and development

For its third edition Biennale Democrazia faced the oxymoron of the possibility of the impossible together with remarkable guests from all over the world. Africa was one of the special focuses of the event, with the participation of high representatives from Angola, Mozambique, Congo Brazaville, Ghana in a meeting held on April 11th at the Teatro Carignano.

The meeting, moderated by the journalist Pietro Veronese, after Mayor of the City of Torino Piero Fassino's welcome to the public, was introduced by a speech of Romano Prodi, President of the U.N. - African Union  working group on peacekeeping missions in Africa, an analysis on past and present pacification processes for consolidating democracy in Africa.

To each of the guest invited to give a speech afterwards - the Vice President of Angola Manuel Vicente, Mozambique's Prime Minister Alberto Vaquina, Congo Brazaville's Minister in charge of Communications and Parliamentary Affairs Bienvenu Okyemi - the moderator asked to portray the elements that in the last years characterized the economic growth and the consolidation of democracy in their respective countries, as well as their future expectations.
