RENEP – Renewable Energies for Palestine

The Consulate General of Italy in Jerusalem and the Palestinian Ministry of Local Government based in Ramallah promoted the RENEP project through the PMSP (Palestinian Municipalities Support Program), established and financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The project, started in 2014 and ended in 2017, was developed as part of the partnership between the Municipalities of Hebron and Turin based upon a Cooperation Agreement signed in 2013, with the technical and scientific contribution of the Metropolitan City of Turin, of SiTI (Higher Institute on Territorial Systems for Innovation) and Ai Engineering Srl.
The project output was a detailed feasibility study to define a "smart grid" approach, in order to strengthen the renewable energy sector in Hebron (400 thousand inhabitants) and identify policies for a sustainable energy system supporting the local economic development. The RENEP project developed in line with the political strategies in the renewable energy sector presented during the UN Conference on Climate Change held in Marrakesh in the autumn of 2016.
