Turin 2006: Host City 20th Winter Olympics

Medals Plaza

The Medals Plaza will be located in the magnificent Baroque heart of Piazza Castello. This giant stage will host 55 of the 84 Olympic award ceremonies. It will be heated and covered with mirrored steel panels arranged at different angles in order to reflect the sky and the various historical monuments of Piazza Castello. A central rotating section will allow rapid scenery changes as every evening, after the award ceremony, the square will be transformed into a concert venue that will welcome some of the biggest names of the Italian and international music scenes.

The artists will be backed by a 50,000–Watt audio system and a giant 300 m2 screen will be installed to allow the spectators furthest from the stage to follow the award ceremonies and concerts. The stage will be arranged in front of the house of flags, a huge 30–metre tall construction where all the flags of the Olympic Countries will be on show around the clock. A four–storey structure, again covered in mirrored steel panels and located exactly opposite the stage, will host TV crews from all over the world.
