MITO SettembreMusica
The best orchestras in the world, the baroque opera, the music of the Middle Ages, musical masses in the great basilicas and abbeys, the musical ceremonies in the court of the “Sun” king, the greatest maestros of contemporary music with Olivier Messiaen, Elliott Carter, Karl Heinz Stockhausen, Luigi Nono, Harrison Birtwistle and the music of the most distant world, captured during the journey of the gypsies, who travelled from Rajasthan to Andalusia, passing through Pakistan, Persia, Turkey and the Balkans. Jazz, open-air performances, night time concerts....
For three and a half weeks in September, a genuine musical frenzy will pass through Torino and Milan, with three, four, five concerts a day, many of them free.
"MITO SettembreMusica" is the representation of two cities under the spell of music, but it is also much more, as it offers all those who venture in the chance to fall in love at first sight.
Enzo Restagno is the artistic director.
MITO SettembreMusica is an International Musical Festival. In 2007, it united the cities of Milan and Torino for the first time, with a comprehensive programme of more than 180 art music events, of which more than 60 per cent were free. These included classical, contemporary, jazz, rock, pop and ethnic music concerts, meetings, musical marathons, events devoted to specific themes and film screenings. The product of Torino Settembre Musica’s thirty years of experience, the MITO Festival, which will return to the two cities, was also met with great enthusiasm and passion in Milan, gaining critical acclaim and attendance figures that went far beyond the most optimistic expectations.
The first edition of MITO lasted for 25 days, with 4/5 concerts per day in a variety of venues, from auditoriums, churches and theatres to piazzas and courtyards. More than 160,000 people of all ages, but especially young people, were attracted by the party atmosphere that swept through the two cities, and the numerous events that took place from day to day were received with great gusto.
From great international orchestras to jazz, rock and pop performers, and from early music ensembles to today’s most innovative, barrier-breaking groups, the festival brings together artists and musicians of international calibre, for a programme that combines quality with a convergence of styles, making this one of the most important music festivals in Europe.
