The city is a major ICT, Information and Communication Technology, district at national level and the segment can count on superlative underpinning in the Piedmontese capital, thanks to the presence of the Polytechnic of Turin, numerous research centres and a series of companies who are sector leaders on the domestic and foreign market. The Torinese ICT district comprises more than 7,000 businesses and thanks to this resource of structures, people and expertise, Information and Communication Technology in Turin is in the running for a leading role in the implementation of the European Union’s Galileo Project for global satellite navigation.
Turin has been chosen as a centre for technological development by companies like Motorola, who set up its Motorola Technology Centre in the city. Turin is also the home to Telecom Italia Lab, which is Telecom Italia and Alenia Spazio group’s R&D centre. This is Italy’s biggest space industry and an international leader, involved in systems for telecommunications and multimedia services, satellites for remote sensing, meteorology and scientific applications.
