Design

In Torino, style is not merely a distinctive characteristic of the city. It is also design. It is represented by the beautiful motor cars conceptualised by Bertone, Giugiaro and Pininfarina, and by the work of creative young designers from the Polytechnic, Torino’s Institute of Applied Art and Design and the European Institute of Design, as well as by more than 100 industrial design companies.

A meeting between design and objects, characterised by the tradition of architects such as Carlo Mollino, Annibale Rigotti and Andrea Bruno, which has led, in 2008, to Torino becoming the first Italian city to host the World Architecture Congress . But that is not all. In 2008, Torino is also, and above all, the first World Design Capital .

The nomination by the ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) is a recognition of Torino’s desire for redevelopment by means of its deep-rooted ties with innovation and creativity, in addition to its solid traditions and widespread expertise in the field of design.

But this is not enough. In 2008, Torino is also, and above all, the first World Design Capital.
