Suzuki Method World Convention

For the first time in Italy, after eleven years away from Europe, the 14th Suzuki Method World Convention will take place in Turin between 12-17 April 2006. The last edition, the thirteenth, was held in Matsumoto in Japan in 1999.

The Suzuki method – from the name of the maestro Shinichi Suzuki who defined its content during the 1930s – is an educational method, the objective of which is to teach music to children through a system which follows the perceptions related to the learning of the mother tongue. It is adopted by more than 100,000 music schools all over the world: from Japan to Canada, from Iceland to South Africa, as well as in all European countries.

Two important concerts will crown the week of study, lessons, rehearsals and conferences that will take place during the course of the programme: Child to Child – Un futuro senza lavoro minorile (A future without child labour) will take place on 16 April at the Giovanni Agnelli auditorium in the Lingotto Conference Centre. The concert, organised in collaboration with the United Nation’s ILO-IPEC Agency, is dedicated to the global campaign for the elimination of child labour. It will feature internationally renowned artists and musicians such as Uto Ughi e Angelo Branduardi, who have enthusiastically agreed to take part in this initiative by virtue of its high humanitarian value. On 17 April, all of the young people from the convention will perform together at the Farewell Concert, thus forming the largest youth orchestra in the world.
