The Musical Journey of the Gypsies
Egypt-Turkey:
from the cafes of Istanbul
to the poets of the Nile Valley
Assigned Seating € 5 buy
The Gypsies of Egypt bring us the great
Bedouin epics. With rebab accompaniment the
adventures of Abou Zeid Al Hilali,
“black as a crow”, hero of epic songs of the 10th century,
recount the arrival of nomadic Arab tribes in North Africa.
In Turkey, the Rom are master clarinetists. They preserve
the festive repertoire of regional dances
and music from the ancient cafés of Istanbul.
In the old districts, this music accompanies a wide range
of eastern dances.

REPEAT PERFORMANCES
Wednesday-Thursday
September 10-11
9 p.m.
In Fenêtres Mathurin Bolze creates
a living space that is entirely
three-dimensional. From an elastic floor
used as a trampoline, he climbs the walls
to the ceiling, and hangs suspended at the
windows. The walls become the ground,
and there’s always an airborne connection
between two points. Perspectives are modified,
gravity has less hold. This is a new view of
perception. A re-invention of interactions
with others and with the world.
The “moral” of the force of gravity
is turned upside down. Acrobatics on the
elastic floor are transformed into something
that crosses the territories of the various scenic
arts with great freedom, giving life to a show
that blends the purity of movement with
moments of intense visual dramaturgy and
enthralling story-telling.
