Erik Satie, born in Honfleur, said of himself:
"Near-sighted from birth, I am sentimentally far-sighted."
To friends:
"Abandon pride; of all bad feelings, it is the one that makes people the most constipated."
He also said:
"Everyone will say I'm not a musician. It's true, I'm a phonometrographer."
Eccentric, irreverent, infantile, sarcastic, delicate, bizarre - Satie was one of the
pivotal leaders of modern art, the immobile hub of those extraordinary years in which art came to be associated with names like Auric, Milhaud, Tailleferre, Durey, Honegger, Poulenc, Cocteau, Diaghilev, Picasso, Radiguet and many others.

Introduction by Eva Cantarella
When Love Conquers Death

Today it is a river, but once it was a man named Aci, who lived in Sicily, and loved, a loved again, the beautiful Galatea.
The cyclops Polyphemus, crazed with jealousy, hurled a boulder at Aci and killed him.
But he was reborn in the form of a river.
