The Language Game

Playing with Words and Meaning

The intercultural language game presented here consists of a set of 48 terms, which have been translated into more than twenty languages by a team of native speakers. These terms are partly written in artistic calligraphy and are illustrated freely.

The cards have been conceived as raw material for games dealing with expressions and concepts in different cultures. With them we hope to inspire the discovery of similarities and affinities as well as differences of concepts.

The game was developed in the course of the project "SOCIAL INVENTIONS", conducted by Werner Linster at Volkshochschule Schöneberg (1994-95).

It was an initiative to help improve intercultural understanding in Berlin. The main target group were pupils and students of all levels.

The NOVAS RES partners were in favour of reviving and promoting this game by transforming it into a digital version, which can be downloaded and printed out by interested people – hopefully many teachers in Europe and elsewhere.
