The
gallery, housed in the building of the Academy since 1837, came into being
for educational purposes, when the Mossi di Morano collection was bequeathed(1828).
It comprises works from the fifteenth century to the eighteenth century
(Filippo Lippi, Defendente Ferrari, Martino Spanzotti, followers of Caravaggio
as well as Flemish, Genoese and Venetian artists). King Charles Albert's
donation (1832) of 60 cartoons by Gaudenzio Ferrari, a collection of drawings
from a Renaissance workshop which is unique of its kind in the world,
is also exhibited here.
