Laboratorio Città Sostenibile
In 1999 the City of Turin set up the Laboratorio Città Sostenibile to develop actions oriented to recognize the right the citizens have to live in a climate of meaningful relationships and in a sustainable urban dimension.
At present the Laboratorio Città Sostenibile is a structure that reflects policy decisions made by six Administrative Councils: Educational Resources, Environment, Urban Decoration and Regeneration, Public Green, Roads and Transports, Decentralization and Metropolitan Area.
Within this frame the actions promoted by the Laboratorio Città Sostenibile are based on some key concepts:
- spreading the concept of city as a “place for all”;
- the “weak subjects” in a city help to understand its social sustainability and therefore they may be taken as parameters when making choices about urban transformations;
- the processes of urban transformation from a sustainable point of view require the encouragement of participative policies that must involve children and young people as well;
- promoting a sustainable urban culture encourages a better quality of life;
- increasing the education of citizens, above all the youngest ones, since they are active subjects in local change and development.
