Travelling by bus

The bus is the cheapest solution so as to travel, but the service is not very frequent and turns out to be less comfortable and fast than the train.
There is not a true national system of bus companies.
The main lines operate mostly within the regional borders with service stations in the main cities that connect the main city to the smallest centres, to the surrounding agricultural and mountainous zones .
It is possible to have information directly at the bus terminal or consulting the Yellow Pages at the voice autolinee and Tuttocittà at the voice trasporti.
In cities of big dimensions, it is possible to buy the ticket in the offices of the companies or in agencies and the bus generally leaves from a service station or in a particular public square or road.
In the cities of small dimensions and in the countries, the tickets are sold in the bars or inside the bus. Generally the buses are punctual.

The main bus companies:

City transports
Most of the big Italian cities have a good system of transport.
The most common means of transport are the buses; in some city centres there are typical means of transport: in Bologna the trolley bus, in Venice the water-buses, in Milan and Turin the tram.
The only cities that have a metropolitan net are Milan, Rome, Naples and Turin.
The buses are usually frequent and reliable.
It is possible to get information on the buses routes and on timetables at the offices of Tourism and at the customer service of the local public services.
The ticket for one trip generally has 1 hour validity and costs approximately 0.90 euro. There are various types of subscription.
For visits of little days local cards offer many facilities.
Tickets cannot be bought on board, but in tabacconists, at newspaper stands, in automatic machines, in the tube stations and in the shops that expose the brand of the Municipal Streetcar Transit Agency. It is necessary to obliterate the ticket as soon as you get on the bus.
In case of non-obliteration, the previewed fine is of approximately 25.80 euro, sum that could vary according to the dispositions taken in the various cities.
