Temporary and seasonal job

Access to seasonal job for non communitarian citizens
The employer who means to engage a foreign person for a seasonal job must present nominative application to the Unique Point for immigration. In the cases in which the employer does not have a direct knowledge of the foreign person, the request must be immediately communicated from the Unique Point to the Employment Centre competent, that verify within five days the eventual availability of Italian or communitarian workers to accept the seasonal job offered (see Access to short or long time subordinated job for non communitarian citizens).
Within the maximum term of 20 days the permit is issued, the authorization to the seasonal job has a validity from twenty days to a maximum of nine months, lining up with the duration of the seasonal job demanded.
The seasonal worker has priority for re-entering in Italy the following year for seasonal job reasons, in comparison with citizens of the same Country who have never entered regularly in Italy for job reasons. He can, moreover, convert the residence permit for seasonal job in residence permit for short or long time job, provided that the conditions come true.

Job in tourism
Contrary to the difficulties to find a long time job, the seasonal job opportunities are quite good: the most favourable fields are that tourist - hotel and the agricultural one.
Italy is the tourist country pre-eminently and, if you adapt yourself, it is not difficult to find jobs in hotels, restaurants, bars, ice-cream shops, and so on. Also in agriculture it is possible to find short time job in the fruit and vegetables collection.
On average the demanded availability goes from 2 to 6 months and the most demanded profiles are reception employees, cooks, cleaning staff, barmen, waiters for the receptive structures, baby sitter, entertainers; and so on.
The best period to send your resumè goes from January to April for the summer season and from September to November for the winter season. For job in hotels it can be useful to read the announcements that appear on daily paper and local newspapers and it is almost always necessary to introduce yourself personally since the innkeepers prefer to see the people that they mean to engage. In order to work as cook assistant, dishwashers or floor maid no particular experience is requested. While for other profiles, above all in the field of the animation, generally the priority in the engagement is given to those who possess professional qualifications or experiences in the field and is preferable the knowledge of one or more foreign languages.

Job in tourist villages
The experience of job in a tourist village in Italy represents one of the most widespread temporary job opportunities. The requested professionalities are several and include an immense range of specializations: the agencies select staff for the animation, restaurant, stewardship, hostess, welcoming and maintenance services, for atelier (the ones who have experience in the field of applied arts), for administradive jobs, for sport activities, and so on. Among the main requirements, beyond being out of age, you are requested spontaneity, creativity, organizational abilities, extrovert character and dynamism.
It is an exacting piece of work, with not predictable timetables and gain, at least initially, little tempting. The best period to start looking for a job in this field is January/February. It is necessary to send your detailed resumè, enclosing a small photo, to the various agencies that manage tourist villages, specifying (in case of tour operator that have tourist villages in various countries) that you are interested job places in Italy.

Au pair Job
The au pair stay is the cheapest solution in order to improve the knowledge of the Italian language without having to face the expenses for the stay, having therefore the opportunity to know the Italian culture, to see unknown cities and places. The families are chosen on the basis of seriousness and responsibility requirements. The possibility of au pair job in Italy is exclusively limited to girls. Here the general characteristics requested by the agencies to the au pair candidate:
the age of the "au pair" girl must be between 18 and 30 years, she must be single and preferably no smoker; the duration of a stay is between 6 and 12 months. In summer the period can be also shorter (1-3 months).
The Italian families ask for au pair girls' collaboration mainly for looking after children and so that they can learn the language; between the family and the girl should be drawn up a written agreement in which are specified the mutual duties; the timetables are established by the family and not by the girl; usually in the first two weeks it is possible to change the family in case of serious problems; the "au pair" girl has right to board and lodging (possibly in a single room) and to a remuneration for her small personal expenses in exchange for a domestic help and for baby-sitting; the engagement requested varies according to the chosen formula: in growing order of engagement hours and weekly remuneration the formulas are demi-pair, demi-pair plus, au pair, au pair plus, mothers help.
Free time is generally given on the basis of both the family and the girl's needs; the journey there and back is at the girl's expense.

Vocational Trainings

Vocational Training in company is for the student an excellent occasion to complete his academic preparation and to enter the job world. A vocational Training in a foreign country combines the company experience with the one, equally formative, of the knowledge of a culture different from yours. It is different from a real job since the young person, during his stay in company, continues to be for all purposes a student. There is no obligation for remuneration, just in some cases there is just expenses reimbursement (granted also through scholarships) or a prize stage. The amount is decided by each company according to their needs and on the basis of the duties carried out by the training. The apprentices must be insured against industrial accidents by the competent Agency in the hosting Country.
On the basis of the typology and formative objectives there are various types of training with different duration and development modalities. The training is within an educational programme, in order to participate to it , therefore, you should ask for information to formative agencies, to school institutes and to universities that manage the formative activities and that keep directly the contacts with the companies.
Universities often have lists of companies interested in welcoming apprentices or of institutions/organizations that can be useful for the research of a stage.

In order to carry out a training in a company it is possible to apply spontaneously to a company or to turn to a specialized service or a promoting agency such as the Employment Centres, the guidance and education centres, some Industrial Associations, and so on that, besides providing useful information, can offer interesting opportunities. Other useful source are the foreign Chambers of Commerce available in Italy or branchs (office) of foreign corporations in Italy.

Another possibility is given by professional agencies, institutions or Centres that, covering the role of intermediaries between the European Union and the citizens, announce publicly internship within the communitarian program Leonardo.
Leonardo da Vinci is one of the programs of the European Union that finance study programs, practical and voluntary service in the Countries of the Union.
It offers the possibility to complete an experience of education and job in one of the 15 States members of the European Union, let alone in Island, Liechtenstein and Norway and in the Countries associated to the Program: Estonia, Hungary, Slovakian Republic, Lettonia, Polonia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Lituania, Rumania, Malta and Cyprus.
In order to participate it is necessary to turn to the State National Agency where you live (provided that this State adheres to the Program so as to realize mobility actions).
Each promoting organism of the training project will specify in the ban of selection the duration of training and the countries of destination, together with the requirements and the due expiry dates for the presentation of the application. The companies where to carry out the trainings will be pointed out by the same organisms, within the respective cooperation agreements.
The participation to the program is free, a financial contribution is offered in order to face the "costs of mobility": travel, assurance and stay. Further information on Leonardo and the addresses of the national Agencies can be found consulting the site
http://ec.europa.eu/education/programmes/leonardo/leonardo_en.html.
