in the residence country (generally after 90 days from the
request) and is always specific, that is in the request for
the approval it is necessary to indicate the reason of the
entrance, the duration of the stay, the destination place.
Once entered in Italy, in order to extend the stay over the
term of 3 months it is necessary to ask the residence
permit in Police headquarters or through the post offices.

Police centre within three days from the arrival.
For those who stay in hotels, hostels or camping sites the
registration is automatically made by the reception of the
structure.

Change
The Euro is the official currency in Italy from 1°
January 2002: 1€ = 1.936.27 Italian lire.
Not only Italy, but also other 11 countries of the European
Union use the euro as official currency. The Euro is divided
into 100 cent.
Coins of the value of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cent, 1 euro, 2
euro and bank notes of the value of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200
and 500 euro are available. While the bank notes are identical
on both sides, the coins have a side equal for everybody and
the other side has the typical features of the country where
the currency is in use.
For information, consult the Euro section of the site of the
European Union: http://europa.eu.int/euro

It is possible to change money in the banks (where generally
the change is more convenient), in the post offices and
in the Foreign exchange offices upon previous payment of
a commission for the change. Generally banks are the most
reliable and offer the best changes. The main railway stations,
