About "Giovani e Idee"

Projects for the participation of young people to the economic, cultural and social development of Torino metropolitan area.

The first edition

The project Giovani Idee was born in 2002, in order to help young people to develop their ideas, to make them live an experience of personal empowerment and to give value to initiatives that could enrich the metropolitan context.

Any "young idea" in social, economic or cultural field has the potential to contribute to the development of cities that are managed by the "adults" that too often have the need of receveing innovative and fresh inputs to keep things updated with times.
In the project first edition 19.400 young people contacted Giovani Idee's office, 2.000 had personal interviews and 575 ideas have been presented. Following the ideas presentation a series of collective information/training session have been held aimed at supporting the participants in drafting their project. After this second stage, 202 projects have been written down and distributed to the project partners. More than the half of those (137 projects) received expressions of interest and support, in some cases (17 projects) the support was total, even if composed by resources by differen partners, in the other cases the missing resources needed to be found.
At the moment the projects that have been carried out or are active are 40.

Giovani e idee represents a pilot experience for the Municipality of Torino; youth is the main resource to count on for the development of Torino, therefore Giovani e Idee wants to build, support and raise initiatives, possibly innovative ones, that comes from expectations and projects of young people.

The main objective is start a vituous circle of ideation, support and realization of ideas and to design, together with young people, a scene in which energy, fantasy and creativity become determining resources for their future, and for the future of our city and of our metropolitan area. Perhaps young people of our city can demonstrate that our future is also of their interest and that is not only the adults that can have ideas and is able to express them and to realize them.

From the first to the second edition

At the end of the first edition an evaluation has been carried out through different activities:

  • a seminary (15 March 05)
  • an encounter with other Municipalities of the metropolitan area (2 May 05)
  • interviews to 200 participants of Gidee
  • interviews to a sample of 20 groups of young people
  • interviews to 15 partner organisations and Municipalities
  • an encounter with other Municipalities of the Metropolitan area (6 July 05)
  • a public event (13 July 05) with the participation of young people and operators of the City of Torino and other Municipalities of the Metropolitan area, during which 3 focus groups have been carried out on the following topics: process, partners, young people.

By reading the results of the evaluation survey and the data collected, the work group (Direction, Staff) has received important elements for the design of the project new phase.

The 2nd edition scenario

The Municipality of Torino through Giovani e Idee aims at carrying out an action of accompanyment, through an inclusive process, empowering its participants (by giving them the chance to make experiences, build competences, start collaborations and synergies, develop planning and pro-active skills).

The goal of contributing to the "growth" of many young people and many projects is more important than guaranteeing the realization of the ideas (too many variables often not predictable: time available, aspirations and life expectations, availability of resources,...)
