VIA ALFIERIHere and in the nearby streets you'll find sumptuous buildings dating back to the 19th century; among these Palazzo Lascaris, the Post Office Palace, at n. 10 and the adjacent Palazzo Galleani di Canelli and Palazzo Barbaresco. Palazzo Truchi di Levaldigi, built in the second half of the 17th century, is on the corner with via XX Settembre. Today it is the headquarters of the "Banca Nazionale del Lavoro"; it is renowned for its portal.![]() |
VIA ARCIVESCOVADOAll its buildings are worth at least a glance. In particular, lift your nose towards the façade of the "Scuola d'Applicazione Genio Artiglieria" headquarters. Built between 1738 and '42 by captain Devincenti, the chiaroscuro effect of the severe ashlar with the gigantic order pilasters lining the parapets at regular intervals is remarkably striking. Opposite, the Palazzo and cappella dell'Arcivescovado, attributed to the genius of Guarini, has its typical curved shapes. The Visitazione Church is on the corner with via XX Settembre. Attributed to Francesco Lanfranchi, with a Greek cross plan, it has a carved wooden portal. The interior is lined with marble and golden stuccoes, on the cupola frescoes portraying Paradise, in the centre, and the four Virtues on the pendentives; the organ, in golden carved wood, dates back to 1680-86. |
