APPEARING IN VIA GARIBALDI FAIRIES, PIXIES AND GNOMES...
Nothing is as it seems. Don't believe what you see in shop windows, just give in to the spell of apparitions. Wizards, fairies, pixies and gnomes in a parallel world of narrow alleyways, caverns and ravines. Watch your back though: you can never be too sure...

PIAZZA STATUTO
They say it was a "present" from the English (they paid for it to be built in 1864) and it is situated right on the Black Magic triangle, with its other vertexes London and San Francisco. Coincidence? In the centre is the commemorative monument to the realisation of the Frejus (1879) (foto) and the spire of Beccaria and his calculations to determine Turin's meridian.
CHURCH OF MERCY
It is normally said that still waters hide the most terrible atrocities: this church fits the bill as its nuns had the thankless task of having to assist prisoners condemned to death. Kept here is the register with the names of the executed prisoners and the executioners, the black Capuchins, as well as a glass for a "final drop" and a crucifix. After a last "merry" farewell, the condemned prisoner was blindfolded in front of the crowd, then the executioner would grab the rope and put it around the prisoner's neck.
Via Barbaroux, 41
Open: on Sundays from 10 to 12
HISTORICAL ARCHIVES
Shall we play hide n' seek? Home can be the Historical Archives.
Turin is never what it seems and once again it reveals its hidden treasures. In the northern courtyard of the archive are the remains of a domus romana, the footings of a medieval tower and even a grain silo. Inside you find documents concerning the administration of the city from 1111 up until today together with precious donations including the photographic archives of the Gazzetta del Popolo.
Via Stampatori angolo via Barbaroux
PALAZZO SCAGLIA DI VERRUA
This is one of the few remaining noble residences from the Renaissance period, despite its infinite misfortunes and changes in ownership. It has two well-kept courtyards and some beautiful frescoes.
Via Stampatori, 4
CHAPEL OF THE BANKERS AND MERCHANTS PIOUS CONGREGATION
Who would expect to find here an amazing universal mechanical calendar designed in 1835 by Giovanni Amedeo Plana and able to work until 4000?! It was probably set for the average life of an elf!
Via Garibaldi, 25
SANTA MARIA DI PIAZZA CHURCH
Built by Bernardo Antonio Vittone in 1751, it is worth a visit, even just for the painting "Assunzione della Vergine" by Pietro Francesco
Via Santa Maria, 4
Open: On Sundays 8.30-12.45/15-19
ROMAGNANO HOME
Every self-respecting fairy tale has a prince, Filippo d'Este, a lady, Emanuele Filiberto's natural daughter Maria and a palace complete with a French window and balcony. This one has two high arched windows and a crossed one...
Via dei Mercanti, 9

PIAZZETTA MASTER CARPENTERS UNIVERSITY
In these ruined corners it doesn't seem strange to believe in the magic triangle and the Egyptian and esoteric symbolism that fills Turin. And, looking at the diabolic friezes around this piazzetta, you'll hope that the dark doesn't catch you unprepared.
MASTER CARPENTERS UNIVERSITY
The term "minusiere" means master carpenter, as opposed to master woodcutter known as "carpentiere". Turin's Minusieri University was founded in 1636 and was abolished together with the corporations. Its spiritual heir is the "Società dei maestri lagnaiuoli, ebanisti e carrozzai" (Association of master carpenters, ebony carvers and carriage makers) that still has its headquarters in vicolo Santa Maria 7 and opens to the public once a year,on 19 March, in honour of San Giuseppe, patron of carpenters.
