TEATRO REGIO (THE ROYAL THEATRE)It's the temple of symphonic and choral music in Turin. It hosts ballets and operas, performances of famous orchestras and soloists from all over the world, boasting prestigious and varied seasons. Its grand scenography, red velvets and chandeliers, whose light fade from yellow to purple, are really famous. It can host 1,800 seats and it was rebuilt after a fire destroyed it in 1936. Only the façade by Benedetto Alfieri is original.Piazza Castello, 215 Tel. 011/8815241 |
IMPROVISED DANCERSNext to the entrance of the Royal Theatre groups of boys, mainly high-school students, listen to and dance hip-hop and perform break dances enlivening the too serious atmosphere of the place... Their exhibitions on the improvised street stage are perhaps just as good as the ones performed on the nearby Royal stage. |
THE ROYAL GARDENSDesigned by Le Notre and built in 1697- 98, they still maintain the old French scheme with statues of the 17th century and a beautiful fountain by Martinez. In summer they become the venue for the so called "Punti Verdi" and host numerous open air concerts and theatre performances. |
