Via Po, Mole Antonelliana, University
A street where you can find a bit of everything and more: royal porticoes, historical coffee houses, shops and stalls with products from other countries; the entrance to a world that makes you discover a lot of famous buildings such as the Mole (the landmark of Turin) with its Cinema Museum, or the University Campus...

MOLE ANTONELLIANA AND THE NATIONAL CINEMA MUSEUM

The Mole (foto) can be seen from a distance, then it seems to disappear, but suddenly there it is, right above you: let yourself be surprised by the visions of the city's symbol! If you don't suffer from heights, take the panoramic lift and, from the steeple on top of the dome, admire Turin...from above.
Since 2000 the Mole has been the home of the National Cinema Museum: there you can see the first image-making machines, many of them still working! You can fall into the real Alien or find cult "relics", such as the corsets worn by film stars; finally you can enjoy the most famous film sequences that have made the history of cinema genres in a suggestively arrayed central hall.
Absolutely not to be missed!

UNIVERSITY BUILDING

Built on commission of Vittorio Amedeo II in order to link the name of the Savoy House with culture in the first half of the 18th century by the architect Garove, with the help of Bertola and Juvarra. Visit the inner yard: under the open galleries you will see statues and busts representing the people who made the university so renowned.

PALAZZO NUOVO

The main home of the University's Humanistic faculties. (foto)
Finished in 1966 on the plan by Morelli, Hutter, Levi Montalcini, Bardelli, Finzi and Donato, this big building made in glass, cement and iron, is commonly said to be awful. Have a look at it, after seeing the University Building: a comparison between these two structures may be interesting!

PALAZZO DEGLI STEMMI

Built at the beginning of the 18th century, by order of Vittorio Amedeo II, it was a charitable home built to remove beggars from Turin's streets. The coats of arms - that can be seen on the façade of via Po, above the arches of the porticoes - belong to the aristocratic families that financed its construction.

SAN FRANCESCO DA PAOLA CHURCH

It was built as a vow by Maria Cristina of France in order to give an heir to her husband Vittorio Amedeo I. Started in the first half of the 17th century, it was consecrated only in 1730 and then rebuilt several times. The façade corresponds to the only part of Via Po without porticoes.

SANTISSIMA ANNUNZIATA CHURCH

Rebuilt from a church of the 17th century and finished in 1930, it is a typical example of the 19th century neo-baroque style. In the nearby rooms you can see the mechanical Nativity, built at the beginning of the 20th century by P.Canonica, and composed of more than two hundred figures: they move thanks to a secondhand engine from a disused ship. Really suggestive!

DECORATIVE ARTS MUSEUM OF THE "PIETRO ACCORSI" FOUNDATION

Pietro Accorsi (1891-1982) was the son of the building caretaker; when he became a famous antiquarian, he bought the house and made it the site of a collection of furniture and objects, in order to recreate the typical Piedmontese high-class interiors of the times.Worth a visit, if you want to live for a few hours in the well-todo past. There are also interesting temporary exhibitions.

RAI PRODUCTION CENTRE AND RADIO AND TELEVISION MUSEUM

The building, the Turin branch of RAI (Broadcasting Corporation), was built in 1968 by Cuzzi, on the ruins of a wing of Palazzo degli Stemmi, bombed during World War II. Inside it there is the Radio and Television Museum; technical equipment, documents, audio and visual aids that narrate the history of the media.

KINGKONG MICROPLEX

Its name echoes and reminds you of the multiplex cinemas which have spread through the city. In spite of its small size, this cinema has multiplied itself by four, being at the same time a cinema, a restaurant, a bar and a meeting centre. Therefore the food offer, as well as the cultural one, is very rich.
