IS VANCHIGLIA A MUDDY PLACE OR ONE OF WILLOW TREES?Vanchiglia sounds a bit bizarre and its origin as far as we know confirms this oddity. Its name might derive from veng,meaning mud, or ving, meaning willows, or vallis iuncea, which means valley of reeds, but a modern visitor finds it hard to imagine this place covered in green fields. |
