MONTE DEI CAPPUCCINIOn 12th May 1640, at night, during the civil war for the succession to the throne a French soldier who was trying to steal the gold pyx kept in the church (foto) tabernacle was struck by a blaze which burst out of the altar.They say the ghost of Filippo San Martino of Aglič, whose body is buried in the church,wanders around the church square to meet his long lasting mistress, Madama Reale. In the church faįade there is a cannonball, a 'souvenir' of the battle fought in 1799 by the Austro-Russian and the French armies. |
PIAZZA VITTORIO VENETOIt has always been the seat of important events: during the wedding of a Savoy duchess a huge basket was placed in the middle of the square and used as an altar. Until a few years ago at Carnival time there was the most important fun fair in Turin. Moreover, in this square (foto), the first gas lighting of a public place and the first radio broadcasting experiments took place. |

MURAZZIIt was and it still is the ideal place to launch a lot of singers from Turin and not only (Subsonica, Tribā, 99 Posse), and it is also the evening destination of lots of artists who are here for a short time, such as Daniele Silvestri, Max Gazzé, Vinicio Capossela. The last of the three has also dedicated a song to the 'Muri' (short for Murazzi): il Tango del Murazzo. |
