Lehtola ha percorso le strade della Finlandia da Helsinki ai confini del Paese in cerca dei suoi "Giovani eroi". Ha visitato rock club, discoteche, bar, piste da ballo estive, feste techno e rave party. Ha visitato tutti i posti in cui i giovani soggetti delle sue opere si incontrano, scherzano, giocano, fanno l’amore, bevono, fumano e in generale si divertono. Il suo viaggio, cominciato nel 1995, iniziò come tentativo di documentare la vita dei giovani finlandesi e i loro posti di ritrovo, abitudini e riti. Lehtola viaggia attraverso le notti del mondo giovanile. Le notti selvagge dei protagonisti sono illuminate dal suo flash che cattura la febbre del sabato sera, con le sue lattine di birra e coca-cola, bottiglie di liquore e sigarette. Le passioni, l’amore, la rabbia, la frenesia, l’energia, l’incertezza e l’innocenza dei suoi giovani eroi si mescolano con le notti estive di cui sono gli attori principali. Queste fotografie sono il ricordo di un viaggio. Un unico scatto è sufficiente a mantenere la naturalezza con cui i giovani eroi permettono di farsi fotografare.

Lehtola has travelled the roads of Finland from Helsinki to the borders of the country looking for his "Young Heroes". He has visited rock clubs, discos, bars, summer dance floors, technoparties and raves, all the places where the young subjects of his pictures meet, joke, play, make love, drink, smoke and generally enjoy themselves. His journey, which began in 1995, started out as an attempt to document the lives of Finnish youth in their haunts, habits and rites. Lehtola travels through the nights of the young people’s world. The wild nights of the protagonists are illuminated by his flash that freezes the Saturday night fever, with its beer and Coca Cola cans, liquor bottles and cigarettes. The passions, love, anger, frenzy, energy, uncertainty and innocence of his young heroes mingle with the summer nights of which they are the leading actors. These photographs are a record of a journey. A single shot is sufficient to maintain the naturalness with which the young heroes allow themselves to be photographed.
