"Island" è un film sperimentale sulla follia che si cela tra le pieghe dell'intolleranza, del pregiudizio e del fanatismo, sia razziale, che religioso o ideologico. Come un bambino nel corpo e nell'anima, un uomo riprende i sensi su un'arida isola rocciosa dove intraprende involontariamente un viaggio guidato dai suoi sensi e dai suoi impulsi. Sospeso tra sogno e realtà, isolato in un ambiente ostile da cui non c'è via di scampo, l'uomo percepisce la presenza di un altro dalle impronte, i riflessi e le ombre che il suo corpo lascia sulla sabbia e nell'acqua. Non riuscendo ad accettarsi l'un l'altro come parti integrali della loro comune esistenza, per sempre intrecciata, e incapaci di coesistere pacificamente, l'uomo e il suo alter ego generano una lotta tra di loro. Un gabbiano elusivo ostenta la sua libertà di andare e venire dall'isola, e allorché getta la sua ombra su di loro nei momenti decisivi del loro rapporto, la tranquillità viene rimpiazzata dalla demenza, la temperanza dall'aggressività, l'intolleranza dal rimorso. Nel suo smantellare le certezze della ragione, nel rivelare le zone d'ombra della mente, il film rende manifesta la follia inerente all'essere umano, fa riflettere sulle passioni distruttive e le carenze spirituali che deprivano l'uomo della sua fondamentale umanità.
È nata nel 1964. Nel 1997 ha girato il suo primo film, "Her Violet Garden", che si è aggiudicato sei premi ed è stato proiettato in più di 25 festival internazionali. Dal 1987 al 1993 ha lavorato come direttore creativo nell'industria dello spettacolo a Toronto, e dal 1993 ha lavorato nella programmazione televisiva come content editor e alla radio come produttrice, scrittrice e conduttrice.

"Island" is an experimental film about the madness that lurks in the shadows of intolerance, prejudice and fanaticism whether racial, religious or ideological. Childlike in body and soul, a man comes into sentience on a barren rock island where he unwittingly embarks on a journey guided by his senses and impulses. Suspended between dream and reality, isolated in a brutal environment from which there is no escape, the man perceives the presence of another in the imprints, reflections and shadows his body leaves in sand and water. Failing to accept each other as integral parts of their common existence forever intertwined but unable to peacefully coexist, strife is incited between the man and his alter ego. The elusive seagull flaunts its freedom to come and go from the island, and when it casts its shadow over them at decisive moments in their relationship, tranquillity gives way to dementia, temperance to aggression, intolerance to remorse. In chiseling away at the safe haven of reason, by unveiling the shadows of the mind, the film manifests the madness inherent in being human, reflects upon the destructive passions and spiritual shortcomings that strip man of his fundamental humanity.
Born in 1964. In 1997 she made her first film, "Her Violet Garden", which won six awards and was screened at over 25 festivals world-wide. From 1987 to 1993 she worked as a creative director in the Toronto entertainment industry and since 1993 she has worked in broadcasting, in television programming as a content editor, in radio as a producer, writer and host.
