On Tuesday 25 September, in Turin’s Civic Palace Clock Hall, the project 'If not now, then when?' was launched in the presence of the Mayor, Sergio Chiamparino, and the Councillor for Integration Policies, Ilda Curti.
This project will involve twenty young foreigners in self-help aid for immigrant parents, Italian courses for students and families, updating and research for teachers, actions adding value to social and cultural competences and acknowledgement of their social role for young second generation immigrants.
They will be accompanied by two mediators and coordinated by the Integration Sector to favour creation of a civic network between immigrants and increase their sense of belonging to a town community.
All this is aimed at overcoming that creation of barricades between the different ethnic groups and the various generations.
These young volunteers will be operating in two areas: Barriera di Milano and Vanchiglia-Vanchiglietta, in Districts 6 and 7, which have about 12,000 immigrants.
