Social security cheques

As of 1 January 2009, social security cheques will be paid to legal immigrants who have lived permanently in Italy for at least 10 years.

Article 20 of conversion law no. 133 of 6 August 2008 establishes that, to be entitled to claim social security cheques, foreign citizens must have lived in this country for at least 10 years.

Therefore, foreign citizens who wish to take advantage of the state pension must respect the following requirements:

  • 65 five years of age and over;
  • absence of earnings, or earnings below the limits established by the law;
  • possession of an EC long-term residence permit or a residence permit valid for at least one year;
  • residence in Italy for at least 10 years.
