Recognition of disability and registration for compulsory job placement

Published 2008.01.10

Since 1998, foreign citizens recognized as disabled, orphans and widows of deceased workers can register, with the same rights as Italian workers, for compulsory job placement.

A foreign citizen with a handicap, legally resident in Italy, can contact the service of forensic medicine in the area and apply to start the procedure of control and recognition of the civil disability or status of disabled person.

Any recognition of invalidity sets in motion an inquiry into those public therapeutic services and rehabilitation which might be useful for the support of the handicapped person.

Recognition of invalidity is obtained through the National Health Service office in the city of residence (ASL).
