Registering a birthThe
birth of a child in Italy must be reported to the
registrar’s office of the municipality or to the
management of the hospital in which it occurs, within
10 days of the event. To make this report it is necessary to have a
valid identification document and a birth certificate [certificato di nascita] issued by the hospital. No residency permit [permesso di residenza] is necessary. [

Maternity allowance and allowance for a family with at least three underage childrenThe request
cannot be presented by the mother (or the father), who is a non-European Community citizen, that is in possession of only
permesso di soggiorno or is awaiting
carta di soggiorno at the time of the request for maternity allowance. [

Unemployment benefitsTo be eligible, a worker who does not have the requisite 52 weeks of contributions (52 weeks of work) in the last 2 years can apply on the basis of one or more jobs for a total of at least 78 calendar days in the previous calendar year. [

measures to cope with the recession. Applications for the bonus may also be made by
foreign citizens with a
regular residency permit who are
