Income support amounts available to families

Published 2007.09.03

Income levels and income support amounts available to families have been recalculated since 2007 financial legislation went into effect on January 1.

The system of calculation has also been changed to prevent what occurred in the past, when even a minimum increase in income could lead to a drastic reduction or loss of welfare.

Income support payments are available for:

  • families of employed workers,

  • pensioners,

  • under certain conditions, other types of workers such as workers on coordinated and continuous contracts and self-employed professionals registered for independent management of social security contributions, when the total income of all family members falls below certain thresholds. It is a service that Italian and foreign workers can receive.

Applications should be presented to the employer or, for agricultural workers or home helps, at the INPS social security offices.

In the former case, the income support cheque will be included in the employee’s wage by the employer, who will then be reimbursed.

In the latter case, income support will be paid directly by the INPS offices.

We hereby publish the INPS offices circular illustrating all the new aspects and the three attached documents.

The first contains the regulations outlined in the financial legislation for 2007,

the second explains the new system of calculation,

and the third lists the income support amounts for every income bracket and type of family.
