TURIN CITY, A FRIEND OF THE WORLD’S BOYS AND GIRLS

On the basis of the intention expressed by the Municipal Council in deliberation 11421 on December 7th 2004, the project “Turin city, a friend of the world’s boys and girls” was set up. It is run in collaboration with ITER (“Istituzione Torinese per una educazione responsabile” Turin’s institution for responsible education) and the International Cooperation and Peace Sector.

The project is designed for:

• Crèches
• Nursery schools
• Primary schools
• Lower level secondary schools

And it aims to:

• contribute, through the direct participation of boys and girls and the active mediation of teachers and families, to a growing awareness of young and adult citizens in respect to the living conditions in faraway countries;
• knock down the barriers of indifference, become peace and solidarity builders, orient training to worldwide spreading of values and behaviours, help find the universal inside ourselves in order to see ourselves within others;
• overcome prejudice and discrimination against minority groups, as well as the rise of xenophobia and ethnic conflicts.

ITER’s educational facilitators, thanks to a specifically designed plan which sees the participation of interested Turin schools and of those NGOs and associations working in the cities with which the Municipality has undersigned cooperation agreements, offer training activities, workshops, laboratories and projects designed for exchanges with foreign counterparts. Following  initiatives implemented in Cape verde and Breza, between 2007 and 2009 the project “Turin City, a Friend of Lougà’s Boys and Girls” - in collaboration with CISV - has been RUNNING.
