Technical assistance for the rehabilitation of the Bethlehem Gross Market through the support of three Departments of the Municipality of Turin: Servizio Innovazione e Sviluppo Aree Pubbliche, Servizio Infrastrutture per il Commercio e lo Sport, Servizio Relazioni internazionali, Progetti europei, Cooperazione e Pace.

Context

As part of the Palestinian Municipalities Support Programfunded by the MAE programme Ali della Colomba involving the palestinian Municipalities, the palestinian Local Government Ministry (in Ramallah) and the italian consular authorities in Jerusalem (ITAU – Italian Technical Assistance Unit).

Funders

• Municipality of Bethlehem (Applicant) = 8,43% (in kind)
• Municipality of Turin (Italian partner) = 17,44% (in kind)
• PMSP = 74,13% (cash)

Expected results

• Training programme for the Bethlehem Municipality’s staff operating in the Markets sector
• Drawing up of an advanced feasibility study for the redevelopment of the new GM
• Awareness campaign and educational activities for traders and citizens
• Preparation and approval of the Guidelines of the GM
• Drawing up of the final design for the GM renovation
• Two preparatory infrastructural interventions (recovery of the GM entrance, rehabilitation of the public toilets)
